POLICE ARREST SUSPECT, HUNT OTHERS OVER ALLEGED RAPE OF 15-YEAR-OLD IN CALABAR

The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a suspect and launched a search for others allegedly involved in the sexual assault and rape of a 15-year-old girl in Calabar, the state capital.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists on Wednesday.
According to Eitokpah, the incident was reported on September 8, 2026, at the Ikpa Omin Police Division, following allegations that the teenager was forcibly taken to a residence in the 8 Miles area on September 4.
He said the girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by two suspects and prevented from leaving the residence for about three days.

Following the report, police operatives arrested one Felix Solomon, who is currently assisting investigators with information that could help unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify other suspects.
“Following the report, police operatives from the division arrested one Felix Solomon, who is currently assisting investigators with relevant information. Efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other persons allegedly involved in the incident,” Eitokpah said.
The police spokesman added that the command had activated appropriate investigative and child-protection measures to protect the survivor’s privacy, dignity and welfare.
He said the victim’s identity and other details that could reveal her identity would not be made public in order to protect her from further trauma and stigmatisation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ajo Ordue, directed that the investigation be conducted professionally and in accordance with the law.
Ordue assured that anyone found culpable would be prosecuted and face the full weight of the law upon conviction.
The commissioner also condemned all forms of sexual violence against children and urged parents, guardians and members of the public to promptly report suspected cases to the police or relevant child-protection agencies.
The command further cautioned against trial by media, stressing that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
