POLICE ARREST SUSPECTED ROBBER IN ANAMBRA, RECOVER ARMS

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 49-year-old suspected armed robber, Chima Ogumba, and recovered a pump-action gun and 50 rounds of live ammunition from him in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area.

The command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday.

According to Ikenga, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, apprehended Ogumba during an operation in the area on the morning of August 17, 2026.

He said the operatives searched the suspect and found a pump-action firearm and 50 live cartridges in his possession.

Ikenga said Ogumba was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for possessing the weapon and ammunition.

The statement read, “The Anambra State Police Command operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu on the morning of August 17, 2026, arrested a 49-year-old armed robbery suspect, Chima Ogumba.

“The team also recovered one pump-action gun and 50 live cartridges from him in Nkpor Road, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.”

The police spokesperson said the suspect remained in custody as investigations continued to establish his possible involvement in armed robbery and other criminal activities.

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, Nnanna Oji Ama, has directed that the suspect be thoroughly investigated, including efforts to determine the source and intended use of the recovered firearm and ammunition.

Ama also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing, proactive patrols and sustained tactical operations aimed at identifying and dismantling criminal networks across the state.
