HOT JIST NEWS
In a statement, Ayanlade Olayinka, spokesperson for the command, said operatives from the Akungba Divisional Headquarters arrested the suspects, including a 19-year-old student, Queen Sodo.
According to Olayinka, the incident occurred when the victim visited her longtime friend at her residence.
“Preliminary investigations show that the victim had been invited to the home of her longtime friend, 19-year-old Queen Sodo, who is also a student of the same institution,” the statement said.
“Relying on the trust built from a friendship that began in secondary school and continued into university, the victim accepted a drink offered by Sodo. The drink was later discovered to have been laced with drugs, causing the victim to lose consciousness.”
Olayinka said the female suspect allegedly left the room afterward and called in a male accomplice, standing guard while the assault was carried out.
The victim was rescued by a neighbour who heard strange noises from the room and found her naked and unconscious alongside the male suspect.
She was immediately taken for medical care and later transferred to a specialist hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment.
Olayinka added that both suspects have confessed to the crime and their respective roles, providing investigators with vital details that will support prosecution.
Several items were recovered from the scene, including the bottle containing the suspected drug-laced drink, which will undergo toxicology testing.
The suspects remain in custody and will be transferred to the Gender Desk Office in Akure for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police urged parents and guardians to counsel their children on exercising caution in personal relationships, warning that even long-standing friendships can be manipulated for criminal activities.
