POLICE INVESTIGATE OSUN MOTOR PARK SHOOTING

The Osun State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting of Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as ‘Emir Ajagungbade’.

Oyeyemi was reportedly shot on Sunday during a clash involving him and a group of commercial drivers led by a man identified as Sibi around Mayfair Motor Park in Ile-Ife.

The incident was confirmed by the Osun State Government, with Governor Ademola Adeleke stating that Oyeyemi died from the shooting.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor directed the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, to investigate the incident and ensure that those responsible for the killing are identified and brought to justice.

Reacting to the incident in a statement obtained on Sunday, the Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, said, “The attention of the Police was called to an incident which occurred around Energy Filling Station, Ile-Ife. Operatives were promptly deployed to the area to restore normalcy, secure the scene, and commence an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Preliminary investigation revealed that one Olalekan Oyeyemi, aka Emir, was shot.

The Command is currently working to unravel the immediate and remote causes of the shooting, identify those responsible, and bring all persons found culpable to justice. The Command assures members of the public that every necessary investigative and operational measure is being taken to get to the root of the matter.”

Ojelabi said the Commissioner of Police condemned the incident and warned individuals, groups and other members of the public against taking the law into their own hands or engaging in acts of reprisal, violence, destruction of property or any other form of criminality.

The Commissioner also urged Osun residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperate with the police by providing useful information that could assist the investigation.

The command assured residents of its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace and public order.

It also expressed condolences to the immediate family and friends of the deceased.
