POLICE PROBE DEATH OF BOLT DRIVER IN CALABAR

The police in Cross River State have started looking into the death of a 29-year–old man named Emmanuel Effiong Ita, who was found dead in his Honda City car on the Target-Udy King road in Calabar on Friday.

Ita, who lived in Ikot Effanga Mkpa, Calabar, was found in a way that the police think might be unusual.

A police spokesperson in the state, Sunday Eitokpah, told reporters in Calabar on Friday that the police got news about the incident and sent people to the scene right away.
But by the time they arrived, Ita’s family had already taken his body to the hospital mortuary.

The police did a quick check at the mortuary and found that Ita had an injury on his chest.

The PPRO said the police had recovered the vehicle and were preserving relevant evidence for forensic and further investigative examination.

He said the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a “discreet and comprehensive investigation” to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.

“The Command has commenced a preliminary investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding his death. His vehicle has been recovered, while relevant evidence is being preserved for further forensic and investigative examination,” Eitokpah said.

The police spokesman urged members of the public to avoid speculation and the circulation of unverified information while the investigation continues.

“The Command remains committed to uncovering the facts and ensuring that anyone found responsible is brought to justice,” he said.
