PRESIDENT TINUBU SWEARS IN ENITAN AS NIGERIA’S NEW HEAD OF SERVICE

President Bola Tinubu has sworn in Abel Enitan as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.
Enitan formally assumed office on Thursday during a brief ceremony at the State House in Abuja, following the retirement of his predecessor, Didi Esther Walson-Jack.
Walson-Jack retired from the Federal Civil Service after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60.
The formal handover ceremony also took place on Thursday, with Walson-Jack and Enitan signing the necessary documents before the outgoing Head of Service presented the official handover note to her successor.
In her remarks during the handover, Walson-Jack presented Enitan with the document covering her tenure from August 14, 2024, to August 27, 2026, formally marking the transfer of responsibilities.
The two officials subsequently exchanged handshakes as Enitan assumed his new role.
Enitan, an indigene of Osun State, is the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service. Before his appointment as Head of Service, he had served as a Permanent Secretary for seven years and seven months.
He has held key positions at the Ministry of Police Affairs, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the Office of the Vice President. He later became Permanent Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Education.
President Tinubu appointed Enitan on August 19, 2026, with the appointment taking effect on August 27.
At the time of his appointment, Tinubu said Enitan brought extensive institutional experience and a strong understanding of the operations of the Federal Civil Service to the position.
The President tasked the new Head of Service with consolidating ongoing reforms, improving professionalism and efficiency, and strengthening the responsiveness of the Civil Service.
Tinubu also charged him to lead a service that is professional, merit-based, accountable, innovative and responsive to the needs and aspirations of Nigerians.
The President commended Walson-Jack for her service to the country and contributions to reforms and innovations within the Civil Service during her tenure.
Enitan, who was born on December 12, 1966, attended Ajibode Grammar School, Ibadan, and the College of Arts and Science, Ile-Ife. He later obtained a B.Sc. in Finance and Banking from the University of Lagos in 1988 and an M.Sc. in Public Policy Analysis from Nasarawa State University in 2015.
