Real Madrid have apologised to the Chinese people over recent remarks by their forward, Kylian Mbappé, which reportedly caused offence.
The Spanish club issued the apology in a statement on its X account on Wednesday, reaffirming its respect for China, its history, culture and people, as well as the millions of Chinese supporters who follow the club.
Real Madrid also expressed support for the apology previously issued by Mbappé, who reportedly regretted his comments and reiterated his respect for the Chinese people.
“Real Madrid wishes to express its apologies to the Chinese people for any offence that may have been caused by the recent remarks made by our player, Kylian Mbappé,” the club stated.

The club emphasised its deep appreciation for China and the millions of fans in the country who support the Spanish giants.
“Our club has deep respect for China, its history, culture and people, as well as the millions of Chinese fans who feel affection for and admire Real Madrid,” the statement read.
Real Madrid also reaffirmed its commitment to promoting mutual respect and understanding among different cultures, expressing its desire to strengthen its relationship with China and its citizens.
“Real Madrid reaffirms its commitment to the values of respect, peaceful coexistence and understanding between cultures,” the statement added.
The club further expressed hope that it would continue to strengthen the longstanding bonds of friendship and affection between Real Madrid and its Chinese supporters.
The apology reflects the club’s efforts to address concerns arising from Mbappé’s remarks and maintain positive relationships with its international fan base.
