Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested a 23-year-old man, Kingsley Chinamezu, for allegedly macheting his 44-year-old lover, Confidence Konebari Sunny, to death in Umuebule community, Etche Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the development in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, describing the arrest as a significant breakthrough in the fight against violent crimes.

According to the statement, Chinamezu, also known as Power Sharp, committed the crime on July 20, 2025, before fleeing to Egbeta village in Edo State. While in hiding, he reportedly issued threats to the deceased’s family, boasting that he could harm them without facing consequences.

Acting on a formal complaint by the victim’s relatives, operatives of the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit traced and apprehended the suspect at his hideout on August 15, 2025. He was said to have confessed to the crime during interrogation.

Iringe-Koko added that evidence was being gathered while the suspect undergoes further investigation and profiling for possible links to other crimes. He will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.

Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, commended the operatives for their swift action and assured residents of the command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property.

Adepoju warned criminal elements to desist from their activities, stressing that under his watch, Rivers State would remain unsafe for perpetrators of violent crimes.
