Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 979th career goal as Al Nassr recovered from their recent defeat to secure a 2-1 victory over Abha in the Saudi Pro League on Wednesday at Al-Awwal Park in Riyadh.
The victory came four days after Al Nassr suffered their first defeat of the season, losing 2-1 away to Al-Ittihad.
Ronaldo opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with a trademark header.

The Portuguese forward rose above his marker to connect with Ângelo’s corner near the six-yard box, sending a powerful downward header past Abha goalkeeper Donovan Léon and into the far corner.
The goal was Ronaldo’s third in five league appearances this season and his 132nd for Al Nassr since joining the club.
More importantly, the strike moved his official career tally to 979 goals, leaving him 21 goals away from the unprecedented 1,000-goal milestone in senior competitive football.
The 41-year-old’s pursuit of the landmark has attracted greater attention following his recent suggestion that the 2026-27 campaign could be his final season as a professional footballer.
Al Nassr doubled their advantage in the 58th minute when Abdullah Al-Hamdan finished from inside the box with a right-footed effort.
Abha pulled one back in the 75th minute through Nabil Fekir, who converted a free-kick to set up a tense finish.
However, Al Nassr held on to claim all three points.
The home side dominated possession, recording about 67 per cent of the ball and creating the better chances against the newly promoted visitors.
The win takes Al Nassr to 15 points from six matches, with five victories and one defeat, leaving them second in the Saudi Pro League standings with a +9 goal difference.
Abha, meanwhile, remain close to the bottom of the table with just one point from six games.
Ronaldo completed the full 90 minutes as Al Nassr, managed by Ange Postecoglou, continued their strong start to the campaign.
Al Nassr will next face Al-Khaleej away on September 12 as they continue their title challenge, while Ronaldo moves closer to the historic 1,000-goal mark.
