Veteran Nigerian Juju and Highlife musician Iyun Janet Ajilore, popularly known as Saint Janet, has been laid to rest at her residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State, weeks after her death.

The burial took place on Wednesday and was attended by her children, relatives, colleagues and admirers.

Among those who joined the family to mourn the late musician was veteran Juju singer Gentleman Dele Taiwo, alongside other members of the traditional music community.

Videos from the burial ceremony showed emotional moments as Saint Janet’s children and other mourners gathered around her remains before she was laid to rest.

The funeral activities began on Tuesday with a candlelight service, Christian wake and Artists’ Night held at the AIT/Faaji FM compound in Kola Alagbado, Lagos.

Saint Janet, fondly called “Mama Yabis,” carved a unique niche in Nigeria’s Juju and Highlife music scene with a style that blended music, humour, satire and social commentary.

Her energetic performances and unconventional approach made her a distinctive figure in the traditional music industry.

The singer’s death had earlier sparked an outpouring of grief across Nigeria’s entertainment community.
