A Lagos Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court sitting in Ikeja on Tuesday heard how a 10-year-old schoolgirl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a security guard identified as Segbenu Abodunrin, popularly known as Baba Bolu.
Abodunrin is facing a lone charge of sexual assault by penetration before Justice Abiola Soladoye.
During the proceedings, the prosecution, led by A.A. Adeniyi, called the survivor’s father, Bashiru Hassan Abdullahi, a butcher, as a witness.
Abdullahi told the court that he was at the market when his wife called and asked him to return home.
He said that upon his arrival, his wife informed him that their daughter had returned from school with blood stains on her uniform.
According to the witness, they questioned the child, who allegedly told them that the defendant, whom she knew as “Baba Bolu”, had called her upstairs and threatened to kill her if she refused to follow him to the upper floor of the school building.
Abdullahi said the child told them that the defendant allegedly assaulted her when they got upstairs.
He testified that the matter was subsequently reported at Area B Police Station, after which the family was referred to a general hospital for the child to undergo medical examination.
The witness told the court that the medical report indicated that the child had been sexually assaulted.
He also said he wrote his statement in Hausa, which was translated into English before it was recorded at the police station.
Abdullahi added that he only came to know the defendant in connection with the alleged incident.
During cross-examination by counsel to the defendant, O.A. Ojo, led by Jesufeolami Oladele, the witness said he was informed of the findings concerning the alleged assault after the child underwent medical examination at the General Hospital.
Justice Soladoye subsequently adjourned the case until November 4, 2026, for further hearing.
