SOLAR WIRING SPARKS FIRE IN KWARA BUILDING

A room in a residential building on Oluwalogbon Street in the Ijooro area of Asa-Dam, Ilorin, Kwara State, was gutted by fire after a spark from solar wiring reportedly ignited combustible materials.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, with the Kwara State Fire Service receiving a distress call and arriving at the scene at about 4:14pm.

The agency’s Public Relations Officer, Hassan Adekunle, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday.

According to the Fire Service, the affected building consists of approximately three-bedroom flats, with the fire restricted to one room.

Firefighters immediately commenced operations and successfully contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the building.

A preliminary investigation by the agency indicated that the fire started after a spark from the solar wiring ignited combustible materials in the affected room.

The Chief Fire Officer, Alabi Muhammed, commended the firefighters for their swift response and urged residents to pay greater attention to the safety of solar and electrical installations.

He advised property owners to engage qualified professionals for solar and electrical installations and ensure that damaged or faulty wiring is promptly repaired.

The Fire Service also urged residents to carry out regular maintenance of solar and electrical systems, noting that poorly installed or maintained wiring could pose a fire risk.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to responding promptly to emergencies and protecting lives and property across Kwara State.
