The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the death of a 19-year-old, Timileyin Oni, who was allegedly killed by unidentified gunmen in Ijebu-Jesa.
The command also disclosed that three other people sustained injuries during the attack and are currently receiving treatment.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, said preliminary investigations indicate that the incident may be linked to cult-related violence.
According to him, the attack occurred at about 11 p.m. on Monday at the T and K Junction in Ijebu-Jesa.
“Following a report of a shooting at the location, police officers were immediately deployed to the scene. They found the lifeless body of a 19-year-old, Timileyin Oni, who was taken to the hospital and confirmed dead by medical personnel,” Ojelabi said.
He added that the victim sustained what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head and that his body had since been deposited in a mortuary after his family was notified.

Ojelabi further disclosed that the deceased’s father informed investigators that his son was attacked while returning home from church
He said three other victims who sustained injuries in the attack had been taken to hospital for treatment.
While investigations are ongoing, the police spokesperson cautioned against speculation surrounding the incident, particularly narratives circulating on social media.
He noted that the command had earlier issued a warning against the annual 7/7 cult celebrations and said available evidence points to cult-related activity.
“No arrest has been made yet, but the Anti-Cultism Unit has been deployed to the area to intensify investigations and track down those responsible,” he added.
