Lauretta Onochie, a former aide to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, has responded to the absence of official commemorations for Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, asserting that those accountable have “shortened their own tenure. ”

In a statement disseminated via her X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, Onochie extended her congratulations to Nigerians both domestically and internationally on the occasion, emphasizing that the essence of the day continues to resonate within the hearts of citizens despite the cancellation of public celebrations.

“Happy 65th Independence Anniversary to all Nigerians, home and abroad. Those who cancelled the celebration of our nationhood today are in trouble. Their arrogance has ended their tenure, two years before it expires. We will help them,” Onochie remarked.

Aligning herself with the “Handshake Movement” and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Volunteer Network, she conveyed her optimism regarding Nigeria’s political horizon.

“We are the #HandShakeMovement, the ADC Volunteer Network. We #HoldTheGround. The future is bright. The future is ADC, when Nigerians shall celebrate their nationhood and have representation in the comity of nations” she stated.

Although no formal parade took place at Eagle Square in Abuja to commemorate the occasion, Onochie underscored that Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary remains significant and deeply ingrained in the hearts of the populace.

“They may cancel the festivities at the Parade Grounds, but the celebration for the 65th Independence Anniversary of our cherished nation, Nigeria, persists within us. God bless Nigeria,” she concluded.
