President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday hosted the United Arab Emirates’ Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Shakhboot Bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, at the State House in Abuja.

The meeting was announced by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a post on his X account.

Onanuga confirmed that Tinubu received the UAE minister but did not disclose the agenda of their closed-door talks.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu received His Highness Sheikh Shakhboot Bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, at the State House on Tuesday,” he wrote.

Photographs shared alongside the post showed the President welcoming the visiting dignitary before both leaders proceeded to a private meeting attended by officials.

The visit follows Tinubu’s trip to Abu Dhabi in January for the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, where he was received at the Presidential Wing of Zayed International Airport by Sheikh Shakhboot.

Al Nahyan has served as the UAE’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs since February 2021. Before his appointment, he was the UAE’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia from 2017 to 2021 and also chaired the UAE Equestrian Federation.

Tuesday’s meeting comes as the Tinubu administration continues efforts to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties with Gulf countries, particularly in the areas of trade, investment and security cooperation.

As of the time of filing this report, neither side had released details of the discussions.
