Trabzonspor manager Thomas Reis has confirmed that Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu will miss Thursday’s UEFA Conference League clash against Scottish side Heart of Midlothian due to injury.

The 32-year-old Super Eagles forward sustained the injury during Trabzonspor’s 4-2 victory over KuPS last Thursday. Onuachu opened the scoring early in the encounter but was forced off in the 10th minute.

The injury also ruled the former FC Ebedei player out of Trabzonspor’s domestic fixture against Besiktas on Monday.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday ahead of the European encounter, Reis provided an update on the striker’s recovery and suggested that he could return to action next week.

Onuachu is being considered for Trabzonspor’s Turkish Super Lig match against Rizespor on Monday, October 26. However, if he fails to regain full fitness in time, the striker could make his comeback against Gaziantep FK on Sunday, November 1.

According to Ajansspor, Reis said, “Mustafa’s return to the field tomorrow will be a little early. If Onuachu cannot be with us in the Rizespor match, he will be with us in the next match.

“We will have a training session after the press conference. We will make the starting eleven decision after this training session.”

Onuachu has been an important part of Trabzonspor’s attacking setup this season, making 11 appearances in all competitions, including eight starts, and scoring three goals.

His absence against Hearts will be a setback for the Turkish side as they continue their European campaign, while the club will hope to have the Nigerian striker available for their upcoming league fixtures.
