TRAGEDY IN OYO AS VEHICLE SOMERSAULTS INTO RIVER, TWO KILLED

The Oyo State Fire Service has recovered the bodies of two passengers after a vehicle plunged into Ariyo River along Amuloko in Ona Ara Local Government Area of the state on Friday night.
The accident involved a Toyota Avensis with an unknown registration number, which reportedly lost control and veered off the road into the river.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, confirmed that the victims had been recovered and handed over to the Nigeria Police Force.

He said the service received a distress call at about 21:40hrs on Friday, May 29, 2026, reporting that the vehicle had skidded off the road while in motion and fallen into the nearby river.
According to him, fire officers were immediately deployed to the scene after the alert was received via a phone call.
“On arrival at the scene, it was confirmed that the vehicle had veered off the road and submerged in the river,” Akinwande stated.
He added that rescue operatives immediately commenced recovery efforts and successfully retrieved two bodies from the submerged vehicle.
The remains of the victims were later handed over to police officers led by ASP Adesuwa Sesan of the Ogbere Target Police Station in Ibadan for further investigation.
Akinwande noted that the fire service responded swiftly to the emergency and completed the recovery operation in line with standard rescue procedures.
