England international Marcus Rashford has penned an emotional farewell to Barcelona as he prepares to return to Manchester United following the end of his loan spell.

The 28-year-old looked set to leave Old Trafford permanently after falling out of favour under former manager Ruben Amorim.

Rashford joined Aston Villa on loan in January before securing a temporary move to Barcelona last summer, where he enjoyed an impressive campaign.

Despite his performances, the La Liga champions decided against activating the option to sign him on a permanent deal. Barcelona’s reported £70 million signing of Anthony Gordon and the recent arrival of Karim Adeyemi also ended any hopes of Rashford extending his stay at the club.

The forward is now expected to resume pre-season with his boyhood club, Manchester United.

Taking to Instagram, Rashford thanked Barcelona for the opportunity and reflected on his time at the club.

“I am extremely thankful to everyone at the club for making my time here such a positive and unforgettable experience.

“I have cherished every moment and will hold those special memories close to my heart. I wish the club and all the fans the best of luck and tremendous success this season. Visca el Barca!” he wrote.

Rashford continues to attract interest from several Premier League clubs, with Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham reportedly monitoring his situation.

Meanwhile, during the Club World Cup, Harry Maguire said Rashford would be welcomed back at Manchester United and could revive his career under Michael Carrick.
