Troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF), Operation Hadin Kai, have arrested a suspected terrorist logistics supplier along with 21 accomplices in Mafa Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to counterterrorism analyst Zagazola Makama, the suspects were caught transporting a large consignment of smoked fish believed to be used in funding insurgent activities.
The arrests were reportedly made around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday by operatives of the 112 Task Force Battalion under the 24 Task Force Brigade, stationed at Checkpoint 2 in Mafa.
The alleged coordinator, 40-year-old Ibrahim Bukar, was stopped alongside the other suspects while transporting 59 cartons and 28 sacks of smoked fish in two Isuzu trucks.
“Preliminary interrogation revealed that the smoked fish was given to them by terrorists in Laje village,” a security source told the publication.
The report also stated that the prime suspect admitted to supplying various goods to insurgents over an extended period. He was further identified by hybrid forces, who confirmed that he previously served as their supplier while they were in the bush.
All the suspects, along with the confiscated items, have been taken into custody for further investigation.
