TROOPS KILL SUSPECTED TERRORIST, AIRSTRIKES HIT ZAMFARA HIDEOUT

Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have reportedly killed a suspected terrorist in Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, while military airstrikes targeting a suspected terrorist hideout in Tsafe LGA allegedly killed and wounded several fighters.

According to a local source who spoke on condition of anonymity, the troops were conducting operations around the Galadi axis when they sighted suspected terrorists riding motorcycles and attempting to cross the road.

The source said the troops engaged the group, killing one suspect, while the others reportedly fled the area.

The deceased was said to have been wearing a woodland camouflage vest beneath his kaftan. Photos allegedly recovered from his mobile phone reportedly showed him dressed in camouflage and carrying a PKT machine gun.

Troops also reportedly recovered four mobile phones and N30,350 in cash from the scene.

The operation is part of ongoing efforts by Operation Fansan Yamma to disrupt the activities of terrorists and bandits operating across the North-West.

Meanwhile, troops reportedly carried out airstrikes on suspected terrorist positions in Yankuzo community, Tsafe LGA, on the evening of September 7, 2026.

The operation reportedly involved five military aircraft and targeted suspected terrorists operating in the area.

Local sources said several fighters were killed and others wounded in the strikes, although the exact number of casualties could not be independently verified.

One of those reportedly killed was identified as Isiya Gurgu, who was said to be a close associate of a notorious bandit leader, Musa Commander, allegedly linked to the Ado Aleru network.

Sources further claimed that Musa Commander operated with the network across several communities, including Tsamiya and other settlements in the area.

The airstrikes were reportedly conducted with measures aimed at reducing the risk of civilian casualties, with the military targeting individuals suspected of carrying weapons or wearing military-style clothing.

Several other terrorists were also reportedly injured in the operation.

Yankuzo has reportedly remained a stronghold for armed groups linked to the Ado Aleru network, with residents continuing to face threats from armed groups operating in surrounding communities.

When contacted, the spokesman for the Nigerian Army 8 Division, Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, directed inquiries about the air operation to the Nigerian Air Force.

Similarly, the spokesman for Operation Fansan Yamma, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, said the operation might have been conducted by the Air Force.
