An All Progressives Congress chieftain in Ondo State, Omoyele Olabode, has commended the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for providing financial assistance to victims of the recent flood disaster in Ondo South.
The minister, through his Flood Relief Palliative Sponsored initiative, distributed cash to more than 1,000 residents affected by the flooding across the six local government areas in the senatorial district.
The intervention, coordinated by former House of Representatives member Kolade Akinjo, was aimed at easing the financial burden on households affected by the disaster and helping them recover from the impact of the floods.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Olabode described the cash transfers as a timely intervention that had provided relief to affected residents and their families.
He said the gesture demonstrated Tunji-Ojo’s commitment to addressing the immediate needs of people in the state, particularly those facing hardship as a result of the disaster.
“This is a reflection of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the minister’s commitment to grassroots welfare across Ondo State. I salute and commend Dr Bunmi Tunji-Ojo for rising to the occasion at this critical time,” Olabode said.
He added that the financial support had helped reduce the hardship faced by residents in Ondo South, describing it as evidence of a leader who responds promptly to the needs of his constituents.
Olabode urged other political leaders and well-meaning Nigerians to emulate the minister by supporting flood victims while government agencies intensify efforts to address flooding through long-term drainage and flood-control projects.
He also acknowledged the expected intervention from the National Emergency Management Agency, noting that the assistance provided by Tunji-Ojo had come at a crucial time for the affected communities.
