Tears and grief filled Ilaro, Ogun State, on Monday as the remains of veteran Nollywood actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, were laid to rest.
Family members, friends, colleagues and sympathisers gathered for the funeral rites of the 66-year-old actor, creating an emotional atmosphere as they bid him a final farewell.
A video from the burial procession showed mourners carrying Ogogo’s remains to his final resting place in accordance with Islamic rites.
Among those present was his close friend and colleague, Yinka Quadri, who broke down in tears as mourners consoled him.
The emotional scene highlighted the grief among Ogogo’s colleagues and loved ones as they mourned the loss of the veteran actor.
Several Nollywood stars, including Jide Kosoko, Faithia Balogun, Femi Adebayo, Mr Latin and Toyosi Adesanya, had earlier arrived in Ilaro for the burial.
Other colleagues, including Ireti Osayemi and Bisi Omo Logbalogba, as well as family members and well-wishers, also attended the funeral.
Actor Bola Oyin-Adejobi also paid tribute to Ogogo in an interview with journalists ahead of the burial, praying for the deceased to attain Al-Jannah Firdaus.
The burial rites followed Ogogo’s death on Sunday at the age of 66. Veteran actor Jide Kosoko had announced that his remains would be taken to Ilaro, his hometown, where a lying-in-state ceremony would be held.
The Ilaro Muslim Community subsequently announced the funeral prayer for the late actor.
Ogogo died days after his daughters, Kaira and Lima Taiwo, appealed for medical assistance for their father, who had been battling stage-four cancer.
Kaira had revealed that doctors could no longer administer chemotherapy due to his condition, leading the family to explore alternative treatment options.
Ogogo was a prominent figure in the Nigerian film industry, particularly in Yoruba-language cinema. His career spanned more than four decades, during which he featured in hundreds of films and earned recognition as one of the most respected actors in the Yoruba movie industry.
