A viral video circulating on social media has shown two men being severely beaten by an angry mob after they were allegedly caught stealing in Asaba, Delta State.
The incident, which reportedly occurred within the metropolis, comes days after armed robbers allegedly attacked several gadget stores in the area, heightening concerns over rising criminal activities.
In the trending video, the two suspects were seen being assaulted by a crowd of residents who expressed outrage over the growing cases of theft and insecurity in the community.
The development has since sparked mixed reactions online, with many social media users condemning the incident as an act of jungle justice, while others defended the mob’s actions amid increasing frustration over insecurity and criminal attacks.
Some commentators warned against taking the law into private hands, stressing that suspects should be handed over to security agencies for proper investigation and prosecution.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities in Delta State had yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
