WAEC DENIES RUMOURED CANCELLATION OF 2025 EXAMINATIONS, SAYS RESULTS TO BE RELEASED BY AUGUST 4

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria, has debunked viral reports claiming that the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates has been cancelled.
In an official press release signed by Moyosola Adesina, Acting Head of Public Affairs, and issued on Sunday, July 20, 2025, WAEC described the circulating cancellation notice as false and misleading, aimed at causing unnecessary panic and confusion among candidates.
The fake report, dated Saturday, July 19, 2025, alleged that the Federal Ministry of Education, in collaboration with WAEC, had cancelled all examination papers due to widespread malpractice, question paper leaks, and unauthorized digital dissemination of exam materials.
WAEC, however, clarified that the examination has not been cancelled and that marking of scripts has already been completed. The results are expected to be released on or before Monday, August 4, 2025.
“The Council is certain that the false claim is being peddled by mischief-makers who are bent on bringing the Council to disrepute,” the statement read. “As a matter of fact, the marking of scripts has just been concluded and results will be released as scheduled.”
WAEC also urged the general public and stakeholders to rely only on its verified social media platforms and accredited media outlets for authentic information.
All official press statements, the Council emphasized, are issued and signed by its Public Affairs Department on behalf of the Head of National Office.
The Council concluded by calling on the public to disregard the fake news and remain calm.
