The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has expressed his intention to endorse individuals who support President Bola Tinubu, encouraging residents to “back those whom the government will heed. ”

Wike made these remarks while praising former Senator for the FCT, Philip Aduda, and the Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, Christopher Maikalangu, during the inauguration of Lot 2 of Water Supply Projects in Karu on Thursday.

The minister commended both individuals for their abilities and for fostering development within the community, while promising the construction of a 2km road at the Karu site upon Aduda’s request, emphasizing his commitment to support those who continue to back the Tinubu-led administration.

He further lauded the AMAC Chairman, Maikalangu, as “exceptionally competent and diligent,” highlighting that Maikalangu had utilized his governmental access to deliver numerous projects to the residents within the area council. He also mentioned that his administration would fulfill any requests made by Maikalangu if he were to secure re-election as council chairman.

There exists a pathway you indicated is approximately 2 kilometers, correct? Consider it accomplished. You know, one fundamental aspect of governance and politics is to endorse those who possess the ability to deliver benefits to the populace. Support individuals whom the government will heed.

“Based on the recent events, it is clear that Aduda has the attention of the government. This is precisely why the government inquired about the road he referenced. Consider it settled.

“Moreover, since he (Maikalangu) assumed the role of Chairman of AMAC, he has successfully engaged the government to construct Saburi Road, he has facilitated the government’s efforts to develop the Kabusa-Takushere Road, and he has influenced the government to refurbish this road. He has also encouraged governmental action on Deidei Road.

“For me, I’m here to talk about those who have access to government and bring something to the people.

“The chairman has the ability to connect with us. Whatever he communicates, we will execute. This is the sole individual I recognize. Should he succeed as chairman of AMAC, we will grant him his demands. I am unaware of the political party he is affiliated with. However, I am aware that he backs Tinubu. Anyone who supports Tinubu will have my support,” Wike remarked.

The minister emphasized that previous administrations have inadequately addressed the needs of the populace, especially concerning water provision in the Karu communities, highlighting that Tinubu’s administration has honored its commitment to deliver clean water to surrounding towns.

“We have experienced a regime that remained in office for five years, correct? We have also had a government that served for eight years, is that not true? Has any administration approached you to promise, ‘We will provide you with water’? Have you ever received water previously? Did this administration pledge to supply you with water? Have we now come to provide you with water?

“Thus, you believe you have a covenant with this administration. And as someone stated, an agreement is an agreement. Therefore, the residents of Karu, you will easily recall the government that acknowledges you, correct?

“Will you remember those who had the chance and opted not to act on your behalf? Will you recall those who neglected Karu? So, we have come to fulfill the promise we made to you that you must have access to clean and potable water,” he affirmed.

PUNCH Online reports that Aduda represented the FCT under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party from 2011 to 2015, was re-elected in 2015 and again in 2019, before losing the seat in the 2023 general elections.

In the meantime, Maikalangu is pursuing re-election as Chairman of AMAC in the upcoming February 2026 Area Council elections, representing the ruling All Progressives Congress, after switching from the PDP in 2024.
