The Yobe State Government has approved N460.83 million to empower female small-scale business owners, including akara sellers, through the distribution of essential business support items.

The approval was granted during the State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Mai Mala Buni at the Government House in Damaturu on Thursday.

Speaking after the meeting, the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Abdullahi Bego, said the initiative is designed to strengthen women-owned businesses and improve their means of livelihood.

According to him, the approved funds will be used to procure 1,780 bags of 50kg beans, which will be distributed alongside cooking oil, smokeless stoves, cooking utensils, and other kitchen equipment already procured by the Ministry of Wealth Creation, Empowerment and Employment Generation.

Bego noted that the empowerment programme is part of the Buni administration’s broader commitment to improving the welfare of women and supporting small-scale enterprises across the state.

The commissioner also announced the approval of N364.48 million for the purchase of 1,000 Yamaha GX 390 grinding machines, which will be distributed to beneficiaries under the state’s empowerment programme.

In addition, the Executive Council approved projects and services valued at N73.32 billion across key sectors of the state’s economy.

The approvals include N28.53 billion for agricultural tools and equipment under the 2026 mega agricultural empowerment programme, N23.97 billion for two major road construction projects, as well as funding for housing, markets, and other critical infrastructure developments.
