An 18-year-old woman, Fatima Dalha, has allegedly stabbed her 30-year-old husband in the stomach following a disagreement over money and personal belongings in Dass Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The incident reportedly occurred around 6 a.m. on Sunday in Lirr Bajar, where the couple allegedly engaged in an argument over money, wrappers and a mobile phone the woman claimed belonged to her.
The Bauchi State Police Command, in a statement issued on Sunday, said the disagreement escalated into a physical altercation, during which Fatima allegedly picked up a knife and stabbed her husband in the stomach.
The injured man was reportedly rushed to a hospital by police operatives attached to the Dass Division and is currently receiving medical treatment.
According to the police, the suspect was nearly lynched by an angry mob before officers arrived at the scene and rescued her.
The command confirmed that Fatima had been taken into custody, while the knife allegedly used in the attack was recovered.
The police added that the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Bauchi for further investigation.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, expressed concern over domestic violence among young couples and urged partners to resolve disagreements through peaceful means.
“A moment of anger can destroy two lives forever. We urge couples to seek peaceful means, through family, elders and lawful channels, instead of resorting to violence,” Aliyu said.
The statement was issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib.
The police commissioner also cautioned residents against jungle justice, assuring the public that the command would ensure justice was served professionally and humanely.
