Joel Obi Shows Class With Another Serie A Goal For Torino In Win Over Cagliari
Torino consolidated their position on the log of the Serie A with a comfortable 4-0 win away at fellow Serie A side Cagliari with Nigerian midfielder Joel Obi among the goal scorers.
Fresh from starring for Nigeria in their two pre World Cup friendly against Poland and Serbia respectively, Obi was introduced in the 77th minute with his team 3-0 up and he rounded up the win for them with the fourth goal.
Obi took up a striker’s position to score in the 88th minute tapping in from close range to add to goals from Iago Falque, Adem Ljajic, and Cristian Ansaldi as Cagliari fail to mount a challenge.
The goal increased his goal tally for the season to five goals from his role as a defensive midfielder in 19 Serie A games. His best ever goal return in a season since his professional debut in 2010 for Inter-Milan.
Already his form earned him a recall to the Nigerian team after a four years absence, and he is expected to make the provisional squad for the World Cup in Russia when the list is released by coach Gernot Rohr in May.
