Ogbeide: Lobi Stars Will Make Nigeria Proud In CAF Champions League

Lobi Stars head coach, Solomon Ogbeide, is confident his team can go all the way in the CAF Champions League this season despite their low pedigree on the continent.

The Nigerian champions will be up against Gor Mahia of Kenya in the first leg of their First Round fixture at the Kasarani International Stadium, Nairobi on Sunday.

It is the second time the Makurdi club are taking part in the CAF Champions League following their debut appearance in 2000, but Ogbeide who is one of the most experienced tacticians in the Nigeria Professional Football League insists they have what it takes to compete against the best teams in the continent.

“I’ m not a pessimist and I believe with what is at our disposal in terms of personnel and support, we can give our country good representation,” Ogbeide who is in his second stint with Lobi Stars told CAFonline. com.
“It’s only when you tried by giving your level best that you can be a winner. We are ready to put in more than our best in order to surmount the challenges and we are prepared to face these challenges.”

who won the title in 2003 and 2004, no Nigerian club have enjoyed success in the competition, but Ogbeide insists his team will end the drought this time around.
“Our plan is to give Nigeria good representation this year and we are going to give it our best shot. We are not worried because we have all it take s to do well on the continent.
“We have the personnel in terms of players, sound administrators and we have the support of government and people of Benue State; but above all, we have God which is our major weapon.”
The overall winner of the game will proceed to the group stage of the CAF Champions League.
