BREAKING: MAKINDE NAMES BAYO LAWAL AS HIS RUNNING MATE IN 2023
By Adeniyi Onaara
Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has named Bayo Lawal as his running mate for the 2023 elections.
This was announced by Makinde on Tuesday.
The governor made the statement during a meeting with some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders from the Oke Ogun zone, according to hotjist.
According to sources, former PDP Chairman in the state Kunmi Mustapha, his successor Dayo Ogungbenro, and Senator Hosea Agboola were among the PDP heavyweights who attended the meeting.
The declaration of Lawal, who is the Chairman of the Oyo State Housing Corporation, has put an end to speculation about who the governor will choose as his running mate in 2023, according to our source.
Lawal is a lawyer from Kishi in the Oke Ogun zone’s Irepo local government area.
Makinde’s deputy, Rauf Olaniyan, an Igboho from Oke Ogun zone’s Oorelope local government area, has been dropped, according to hotjist.
Makinde sacked Olaniyan and replaced him with Lawal, according to our source.
In 2019, Makinde and Olaniyan were elected as governor and deputy governor, respectively, on the PDP platform.
Lawal’s statement comes two days after Olaniyan announced that he had left the PDP and joined the APC, according to hotjist sources.
Olaniyan had previously stated that he has had requests from roughly five political parties to run on their platforms.
