Reports that suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, was one of the prisoners that escaped on Tuesday night from the Kuje Medium Security Custodial Center in Abuja is false.

According to a senior member of the Nigeria Correctional Service, NCoS, the terrorists who attacked the place tried to enter Kyari’s cell but could not.

On Tuesday night, a group of terrorists used bombs and other high-caliber weapons to attack the jail in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

Recall that besides Kyari, other prominent inmates include Farouk Lawan, a former member of the House of Representatives, and Jolly Nyame, a former governor of Taraba State.

According to Dr. Shuaib Belgore, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, said over 600 of the prisoners fled the prison when it was attacked.

An officer, who wished to remain anonymous, claimed that as of 09.30am, he was still unsure of Kyari’s whereabouts.

”I’m positive he is not gone and that he did not flee. But I’m not sure exactly where he is, the official admitted.”

According to Umar Abubakar, the Nigerian Correctional Service Spokeswoman, said that  Kyari has not been relocated from the Kuje prison.
