An ad hoc staff member of a COVID-19 Vaccination Centre was arrested in Abuja for issuing false vaccination cards to some international travelers.
Mohammad Ohitoto, the National Primary Health Care Development Agency’s Head of Public Relations, revealed this in a statement.
Dauda Abu-Huraira, the suspect, was a recorder at the COVID-19 immunization site at Wuse General Hospital in Abuja prior to his detention.
According to the NPHCDA, Abu-Huraira was caught billing clients money and providing them false cards without going through the immunization process.
“However, unknown to the suspect, the NPHCDA has put in place a fool-proof and water-tight system that is almost impossible to beat.
“The Executive Director, NPHCDA, Dr. Faisal Shuaib, has cautioned that measures are firmly in place to apprehend and prosecute all persons engaged in issuing bogus covid-19 immunization cards anywhere in Nigeria,” the statement said in part.
The statement praised the country’s security personnel for their professionalism in apprehending the suspect.
The NPHCDA Chief Executive Officer also expressed gratitude to the Port Health Officers for their assistance in these endeavors.
According to Ohitoto, a few offenders have already been apprehended in connection with the crime and are facing the repercussions of their actions.
He also asked the general population to refrain from such behavior in their own best interests.
