APC HAS RUINED NIGERIA – EX-MINISTER OF YOUTH AND SPORTS DEVELOPMENT
By Sumayyah Olapade
Former minister of Youth and Sports Development, Bolaji Abdullahi, on Wednesday urged Nigerians to vote out the All Progressive Congress in the 2023 elections, saying that the present ruling party has ruined the nation.
According to the ex-minister, the 2023 general elections provide Nigerians with another historic opportunity to make Nigeria work again.
He stated that the dream of making Nigeria great could only be realized if citizens, through elections, chased away APC politicians.
Abdullahi, the PDP’s Kwara central senatorial candidate in the upcoming general election, stated this at the 33rd edition of the ‘Media Parliament’ of the Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Ilorin.
He spoke on ‘Retooling Nigeria For the Task Ahead’.
“The APC government has brought this nation to its knees,” Abdullahi said. Everything we thought couldn’t happen had happened in the previous seven years. There is no way we can absolve APC of the country’s problems.
“The APC has destroyed this country.” Nigerians should vote against any politician running for office under the APC. The year 2023 represents a historic opportunity to resurrect Nigeria.
“Every Nigerian today lives in fear as a result of insecurity and poverty.” In Nigeria today, the poorest of the poor number 90 million. However, we appear to be unaware of the gravity of the situation. We go on as if everything is fine. We are treating cancer with a bandage wrapped around it.”
Abdullahi also traced Nigeria’s problem back to 1966, when the country experienced its first coup attempt, and stated that no nation can have peace without justice.
“After the civil war, our leaders should realize that the Nigeria that the British gave us cannot work,” he added. The country should have been restructured at that time.
“The annulment of June 12 was another opportunity we missed to make Nigeria a real nation.” We diagnosed the problem as a Yoruba issue and elected one of them president in 1999. We had a lot of chances in the June 12 debacle, but we blew them.”
Speaking on the lingering ASUU strike, the former Minister called for an urgent resolution to save the nation’s education sector from total collapse.
According to him, the dispute should be settled amicably so that students can resume their academic activities.
He expressed concern about the country’s security challenges, adding that all hands must be on deck to find a long-term solution.
Abdullahi also urged the youths to contribute their quota to ensure better development of the country.
Earlier in his address of welcome the Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists Kwara state Council, Ahmed Abdulateef, called for the collaboration of all stakeholders to make the country better.
