October, 27, 2022. Dr. Abdul-Azeez Adediran (Jandor), the People’s Democratic Party’s candidate for governor in Lagos State, stated that his administration will make every effort to guarantee that it combats any issue that threatens the state’s economy.

Adediran made this statement on Thursday while in company of his running mate, Funke Akindele, at the house of Chief Emmanuel Akalika, the Eze Ndigbo of Oriade, where they met with the Ndigbo leaders in Amuwo Odofin.

The PDP candidate acknowledged the significant impact the Ohanaeze in Oriade and the entire population of the Amuwo Odofin federal Constituency have had on the state’s economy while also thanking them for their unwavering support of the PDP over the years, saying that the APC-led administration has been treating them as if they are not a part of the economy.

“Over the years, I’ve kept a close eye on things and I can see how the current government treats us as if we don’t contribute to the economy,

I know a lot and I keep asking myself, so let’s imagine Lagos State as a commercial empire.

“As the head of such a business empire, it should be the governor’s duty to safeguard it and make sure it doesn’t go into extinction. So when you start creating discomfort for the players in that place then the business will suffer.

“You (the Igbos) are the ones who have invested a lot in all these markets, and anything that threatens the state’s economy will cause it to enter a recession. A sensible government would take all possible measures to combat this. That is what we stand for.”.

The 43-year-old assured the leaders that he understood their importance and gave them his assurance that his administration will govern with empathy and an awareness of the need to do everything possible to ensure economic growth.

Adediran vowed to appreciate and treat the Igbo as one of us after acknowledging their efforts and contributions in finding a better administration than the one in place for the past 23 years.

“Your support for the PDP shows that you share the same interests as we the indegines who for a very long time have been seeking the breath of fresh air.

“Your support for the PDP demonstrates that you share the same interests as us indigenes who have been seeking that breath of fresh air for a very long time.

“Every election cycle, the Ndigbo in Lagos especially those in Amuwo, Oshodi, Isolo and other parts of the state have always been seeking this breath of fresh air through the ballot.

“I want to say that God has seen all your effort and suffering and has decided to bring someone who understands what it takes to govern an economy such as Lagos.

“He decided to bring someone who is aware that if Lagos is regarded as a wealthy state today, it is because of the Igbos who dominate Ladipo, the Alaba International Market, and other marketplaces, all of which have made significant economic contributions.

“The only purpose the government is installed is to ensure the wellbeing of the people it is in charge of, regardless of where they are from. Once you realise this, you won’t enter markets and start terrorising people in the name of fees.

Earlier one of the leaders in the party, Mrs Tanwa Odunsi, after acknowledging the Oriade area of Amuwo for always giving the majority of the votes cast, to help the party perform better in the upcoming election.

“This is an area that all our election always have 80% and we’ve always had a woman as our ward chairman; Mrs Faleke and she has delivered,

“This time around we are begging for 90 percent, not 80 percent. The whole of Oriade has never lost an election since the inception of PDP.

In his response, Eze Emmanuel Akalika prayed that Adediran’s ambition will become reality, saying “God knows that Nigerians have suffered because of embezzlement and people who get into office and forget the masses.”

Akalika stated that there are so many agitations in the country such as BIAFRA because of the situation of things in the country.

“I have heard about Jandor for a long time, but I have not seen you before. It’s good we pick the best this time around.

“Mr. Jimi Agbaje was here in 2015, but we don’t know what happened later. I pray that no evil will happen to you and God will continue to protect you.

“We need a new Nigeria that everybody would be proud of. I have nine children, some of them are graduates, but I still feed them because of unemployment in the country,” he said.

Later, Adediran paid a visit to some other wards in the area, including those in the riverine area, while his running mate Funke Akindele visited the markets in the community where she enlightened traders and market women about the ambitions of the party for the state.
