THE OPENING OF LAGDO DAM IS NOT THE CAUSE FOR RECENT FLOODS IN NIGERIA – FG

Read Time:1 Minute, 15 Second

According to the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA), the inauguration of the Lagdo Dam in Cameroon is not to blame for the recent floods in Nigeria.

Clement Nze, the agency’s director general, claims that the development is the result of flash floods, improperly built or absent flood channels, and insufficient drainage systems throughout the nation.

At a news conference held on Tuesday at the agency’s office in Abuja, he stated as much, adding that even if the Lagdo Dam were to collapse, Numan in Adamawa State would not be affected.

Mr. Nze stated that the dam was currently closed and, although pleading for calm, he recalled that states that would be negatively impacted by the flooding have received flood warnings since February.
