LAGOS STATE PRIORITISE TECHNICAL EDUCATION TO LEAPFROG YOUTH EMPLOYMENT

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Jamiu Alli- Balogun has said that the Lagos State promises to continue to Prioritize technical and Vocational education in order to create more job opportunities while reducing youth employment.
This was mentioned in a statement signed and released by the Assistant Director, public affairs, Ganiu Lawal on Wednesday.
The Commissioner further stated that the State Government has also given its assurance to support graduates of technical colleges in order to be self-reliant with their skills and resources to become employers of Labour.
While speaking during his weekly unscheduled visit to the schools, Alli-Balogun told the students of the Lagos State Technical College Ado-Sabo, to be more committed , while seeing themselves as business owners in future.
The statement reads in part, “Lagos State Government will continue to prioritise technical and vocational education to create more job opportunities and reduce youth employment. The State will continue to support graduates of technical colleges to be self-reliant with skills and resources to become employers of labour. The State technical colleges are positioned to train students not only for technical expertise but also to be creative and venture into becoming start ups combining technical skills with entrepreneurship.”

The Commissioner addressed the students of Lagos State Technical College Ado-Soba, along Lagos Badagry Expressway where he further encouraged the students to ‘’show more commitment and see yourselves as business owners in the nearest future and I urge you to stay out of trouble, remain focus and ensure you come out tops in your skill trainings and serve as role model to others who are coming behind you’’
“While admonishing the students to stay off vices like bullying, drug abuse and cultism, the Commissioner encouraged the students to always share their thoughts and experience of the state interventions with their parents. He reiterated that Government has provided tools they need to succeed and will not relent in providing more if necessary.”
“Earlier Mr Alli-Balogun and his team paid an unscheduled visit to Festac Junior and Senior Grammar School and Sari Iganmu Senior Secondary School and other five schools within the complex at Coker Orile.”
“The Commissioner reiterated the need for ‘’every hand to be on deck to provide quality education that the students need’’. He further said that ‘’Principals and Vice Principals should lead by example and share experience of classroom management by teaching the students for a minimum of 6-8 periods daily’’. This according to Mr Alli-Balogun will also showcase leadership qualities to be emulated by young teachers.”
