At Bode Saadu in the Moro Local Government Area (LGA) of Kwara State, there was a fire disaster that resulted in 25 fatalities and approximately 15 injuries of varied degrees.
An 18-seater bus, a heavy-duty vehicle, and a petrol tanker with the registration number JJN 17 XW collided at Peke village along the Oko-Olowo, Bode Saadu Motorway in the Moro LGA at approximately 3:18 p.m. on Tuesday, sparking the fire disaster.
Hakeem Adekunle, a spokesman for the state Fire Service, verified the incident and stated that the petrol tanker, which was coming from Niger State, had taken the incorrect side of the road and collided head-on with a heavy-duty truck that was coming from Lagos State.
“The collision ignited a fire that rapidly consumed both vehicles, also affecting an 18-seater bus from Lagos,” he said.
“Expressing deep sorrow, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service emphasized the need for road users to prioritize safe driving practices, issuing a warning to adhere to safety measures consistently.”
