LAGOS GOVERNMENT COMMENDS NIGERDOCK FOR SCHOOL INFRASTRUCTURE DONATION

Lagos State Government has commended Nigerdock, a Maritime Company at the Snake Island Integrated Free Zone for the provision of education infrastructure, community buses, a new police station, an access road and a new jetty under construction at Igbologun, a riverine community at Amuwo Odofin.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogiun gave the commendation today when Nigerdock handed over the new junior and senior secondary schools with a capacity for 800 students to serve the people of Igbologun, Igboeseyore and Igbosu communities.

Alli-Balogiun lauded the company for the planning, finance and execution of the projects as its Corporate Social Responsibility to the communities where it operates. “Decision to invest in the education of children in these communities is laudable and will serve as a huge social capital and investment for your organisations with multiplier effects on parents, students, teachers and the entire communities”, he said.

He also appreciated Nigerdock for responding to the call by the State Government for partnership in the provision of a conducive atmosphere for learning, charging other corporate organisations to emulate Nigerdock and assist in supporting schools in the State.

In his remarks, the Chairman/CEO of Nigerdock, Mr. Maher Jarmakani reiterated the company’s belief that “What is good for the communities is good for us, and what is good for Nigerdock will be a blessing for the communities’’.

He added that Nigerdock shares the same aspirations for prosperity, health, security and a bright future for the youths the same way as the indigenes.

The new schools’ facilities include seven classrooms each, an administrative block, and an 800-capacity school hall with chairs. This is in addition to Physics, Chemistry and Biology laboratories for Senior Secondary School and Home Economics laboratory for the Junior Secondary School.

The company also provided ICT infrastructure and facilities with 20 computers, Libraries for both Schools, accommodation for Youth Corp members serving as teachers and conveniences for students and teachers with boreholes.

The commissioning and handover were attended by the Chairman, Amuwo Odofin Local Government Hon Valentine Buraimoh; the Chairman, Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Hakeem Shittu; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Abayomi Abolaji and  Baale of Igbologun, Lateef Adams Oluwo among others.
