FG HANDS OVER 20 CNG BUSES TO OYO STATE GOVT
On Monday, September 2nd, the federal government handed over 20 compressed natural gas (CNG) buses to the Oyo state government.
According to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the effort aimed to mitigate the impact of the loss of gasoline subsidies while also promoting a safer, cleaner, and more reliable society.
Speaking at the event held at the Pacesetter Transport Services (PTS) office in Ibadan, the president, who was represented by the CEO and Programme Director of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (P-CNGi), Michael Oluwagbemi, stated that the initiative was one of Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
According to him, President Tinubu was concerned with making life easier for Nigerians after discovering the importance of transport in the country’s economic progress.
He stated that the deployment of CNG buses in the country was intended to solve issues that impact Nigerians, notably those related to fuel importation.
According to him, the deployment of the buses was to put an end to the age of benefiting the rich alone, whom he referred to as cabitocrats, for the benefit of everyone, and he emphasised that compressed natural gas was a readily available fuel in Nigeria to alleviate hardship.
“President Tinubu is asking us to use our gas to thrive in transportation, and industries, produce more foods and fertilizers as well as other things that will make life easier for the people.
“We are beginning to do the right thing but this requires us to taste some pains. We can’t go back to subsidize our own impoverishment. As a team, we are determined to show our commitment.
“We are here to present 20 buses as a sustainable partnership with Pacesetter Transport Service (PTS) to generate income because they are assets. We can effectively ensure that the future of the Oyo State is brighter as well as Nigeria.”
In his remarks, Hon. Ibrahim Salami, Chairman and Sole Administrator of PTS, stated that CNG buses are the finest strategy by the federal government to alleviate the suffering experienced by Nigerians as a result of the elimination of fuel subsidies.
He did, however, hail the arrival of the buses as extraordinary, stating that it will assist in alleviating the pressure on the state’s residents.
Ademola Aderinto, Governor Seyi Makinde’s special assistant on the environment, also stated that CNG is a significantly cheaper kind of energy, stressing that the project will provide a longer and better life by preventing the production of carbon monoxide, which is always created by combustion engines.
