ILLEGAL BUNKERING: POLICE BUST ILLEGAL REFINERY, ARREST FOUR SUSPECTS
The Inspector General of Police’s Special Task Force on Petroleum and Illegal Bunkering (IGP-STFPIB) has made another key breakthrough in the ongoing fight against oil theft, illegal bunkering, and economic sabotage.
On September 12, 2024, operatives, in partnership with the Department of Operations, Rivers State Command, found a storage facility in Trans Amadi, Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, used to handle and process illegally acquired crude oil.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Police Force Relations Officer, ACP Olumiyiwa Adejobi, the operation resulted in the arrest of four suspects: Emmanuel Nwachi’m’ 58 years; Adamu Bala’m’ 35 years; Nura Musa’m’ 22 years; and Bashir Abubakar’m’ 28 years, as well as the recovery of 40,000 litres of petroleum products stored in 67 white storage tanks.

However, the crew destroyed the facility and collected the equipment and machinery used to perpetrate these crimes.
While commenting on the development, Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, reaffirmed the force’s commitment to combating all forms of crime, criminality, and corruption, including those involved in the economic sabotage.
The force said it remained unyielding and will continue to bring these perpetrators to book.
