In remembrance of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has announced a three-day period of mourning to begin on Thursday.

The president’s spokeswoman, Bayo Onanuga, announced the passing of Lagbaja, an indigenous inhabitant of Ilobu, Osun State, in an X post on Tuesday.
During the three-day period of mourning, Adeleke also ordered that all flags in the state be flown at half-mast.

This was included in a press statement that was obtained in Osogbo on Thursday and signed by Mr. Kolapo Alimi, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment.

Alimi further said that condolence registrations had been made available for the public to send sympathy letters to the Osun people at the Governor’s Office and Government House.

Alimi added that the memory of the late COAS would live on in people’s thoughts for a long time and described Lagbaja’s passing as tragic, a huge loss to mankind and the country.

“The government is saddened by this irreparable loss of one of the Glories of Osun State, and we particularly condole with the Lagbaja family of Ilobu, the Olobu of Ilobu, and everyone.”

“The mourning period will start today, Thursday, November 7, 2024, and end on Saturday, November 9, while the Condolence Register will allow people to pen down their memories of him, for the immortality of the late COAS, who died at the age of 56.”

“Once again, we pray that God may repose the soul of the late Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, General Taoreed Lagbaja, and grant him Aljanna Firdaus. Ameen,” the statement partly read.
