UPDATE: DELTA CJ FREES INMATE, REVIEWS 379 WARRANTS
During her weekly visit to the Warri Correctional Centre, Justice Tessy Diai, the Chief Judge of Delta State, released an inmate named Mr. Napue Chitu.
During the visit on Thursday, Justice Diai stated that 379 warrants were examined in all and that the Director of Public Prosecutions’ recommendation was the basis for the inmate’s release.
“A total of 379 warrants were reviewed, and the inmate’s release was based on the Director of Public Prosecutions’ advice,” she said.
“We also visited the Sapele Correctional Centre the following day, where the warrants of inmates were reviewed, including those of the children at the Sapele Remand Home. No inmate was granted bail; for other inmates, their cases are still ongoing in court.”
The DPP’s office, the Assistant Controller of Prisons at the Warri Correctional Centre, and everyone else participating in the exercise were complimented by Justice Diai for their efforts in making the prison visit a success.
According to her, the tour will continue to other correctional facilities in the state on Monday, November 11, 2024.
During his speech, the Warri Correctional Centre’s Controller of Prisons praised the State Chief Judge for the quarterly visits, stating that the program will aid in reducing the prison’s inmate population.
