
WE HAVE HIRED FOREIGN MILITARY EXPERTS TO TRAIN SOLDIERS IN COUNTERTERRORISM – DEFENCE MINISTER
The federal government has enlisted top-tier foreign military professionals to instruct its troops in special operations, with a particular emphasis on hostage rescue and counterterrorism.
The Minister of Defense, Badaru Abubakar, made this announcement as he opened a training program for 800 soldiers in Kaduna State.
According to Abubakar, the government will provide the troops with weaponry and cutting-edge technology in addition to training to improve their capacity to counter security threats.
800 soldiers will be trained in the program’s initial phase, with another 800 planned for later. The minister clarified that in order to combat the terrorist group’s constantly changing strategies, it was imperative to enlist the help of foreign specialists.
While he did not identify which nations provided the military specialists, he did acknowledge that they came from seven different countries.
“In the initial phase alone, 2,400 Nigerian soldiers will receive the specialized training before the program moves into its second stage”. He revealed
Citing Birnin Gwari in Kaduna State as an example where peace has been restored, the minister added that the government’s security efforts are having a beneficial impact in some places.
