5 SIBLINGS DIE FROM FOOD POISONING IN ANAMBRA, MOTHER IN CRITICAL CONDITION
A tragic incident occurred in Anambra State, where five siblings died from suspected food poisoning, leaving their mother in critical condition in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area.
Robinson Arinze Aghalu, a 79-year-old retired soldier and father of the children, said the tragedy happened after the kids ate a meal their mother had prepared.
He explained that the children began suffering from stomach pain, vomiting, and other symptoms, which gradually became more severe.
Despite taking them to multiple hospitals including a local maternity clinic, Iyienu Mission Hospital, and Crown Hospital five of the six children could not be saved.
Their mother, who showed similar symptoms, is still receiving treatment in the hospital.
A doctor attending to her indicated that food poisoning is the most likely cause of the illness.
A relation of the family said: “Pa Aghalu is now left with one child, who was staying with a relative during the incident. The family is in shock and neighbours are offering support during this difficult time.
“The family is heavy with sorrow and friends and relatives are offering condolences. The family is appealing for help to cover medical expenses and other needs. Pa Aghalu’s bank account details have been shared for those who wish to offer support.”
