APC EMERGES VICTORIOUS IN OKURA CONSTITUENCY BY-ELECTION IN KOGI

The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared Hassan Shado, candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, as the winner of the Okura State Constituency by-election in Kogi State.
Announcing the results at the Egume Collation Centre on Saturday, the Returning Officer, Professor Emmanuel Onome, said Shado secured 55,073 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party candidate polled 1,038 votes and the Allied Peoples Movement candidate recorded 445 votes.
Despite the victory, the election was marked by low voter turnout, with some opposition parties expressing doubts about the credibility of the process.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Oliver Agundu, lamented the low participation but praised the peaceful conduct of the poll.
He confirmed that minor incidents were promptly addressed by security agencies.
While some voters expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the election, others alleged that the process was marred by irregularities.
The National Deputy Director, Organising, APC Headquarters, Isah Daniel and, Allied People’s Movement Candidate, Joseph Egehe, lauded the peaceful conduct of the election, as well as expressed pleasure respectively.
