The Federal High Court in Osogbo, Osun State, on Wednesday, sentenced Musa Raji Mohammed to four years’ imprisonment for the illegal transportation of 10.7 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa.

Mohammed was convicted after pleading guilty to charges bordering on illicit drug trafficking, filed against him by the Federal Government and prosecuted by Olufemi Ijimakin.

Justice Mashkur Salisu, in his judgment, held that the prosecution had “successfully established its case against the defendant,” thereby leading to his conviction.

According to court records, Mohammed’s trial began on March 13, 2024, after his arrest along the Gbongan–Ibadan Expressway in Osun State on March 1, 2024, for unlawfully trafficking cannabis an offence contrary to Section 11(b) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Act.

The prosecution presented three witnesses and ten exhibits to substantiate its case.

Justice Salisu noted that the crime could attract a life sentence, but the court opted for a more lenient punishment, sentencing the defendant to four years’ imprisonment without the option of a fine, to serve as a deterrent to others.

The judge also ordered that the cannabis seized be destroyed, while the motorcycle used in conveying the drugs be forfeited to the Federal Government.

The development comes amid the NDLEA’s intensified crackdown on drug trafficking networks.

It was earlier reported that five members of international criminal groups were sentenced to a combined 21 years’ imprisonment by a Federal High Court in Lagos for similar drug-related offences.

Three of the convicts Olasupo Michael Oladimeji, Muaezee Ademola Ogunbiyi, and Sola Adegoke were arrested after NDLEA operatives intercepted 17.9 kilograms of cocaine concealed in textile materials and charms bound for Sydney, Australia, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on August 26, 2025.

Further investigations led to the recovery of 20.5 kilograms of Canadian Loud (a potent cannabis strain) from Ogunbiyi’s residence in Lekki, and a Range Rover SUV from Adegoke’s home in Ikeja GRA.

They were arraigned before Justice Musa Kakaki on October 30, 2025, and pleaded guilty. Justice Kakaki sentenced each of them to five years’ imprisonment without the option of a fine, and ordered the forfeiture of the vehicles to the Federal Government.
