Argentine football legend Lionel Messi has revealed that he would rather win another FIFA World Cup than add to his record eight Ballon d’Or titles, underscoring his enduring passion for team success over individual recognition.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who shared the comments via X on Wednesday, Messi was clear when asked to choose between the two career milestones.
“World Cup or another Ballon d’Or? Another World Cup,” Messi replied.

The statement reflects the Argentine captain’s commitment to international glory following his country’s memorable 2022 World Cup triumph in Qatar, which cemented his legacy as one of the greatest players in football history.

When quizzed about his plans after retirement, Messi disclosed that he would prefer to become a club owner rather than a manager.
“I’d say club owner,” he said.

Earlier, it was reported that the Inter Miami forward had also spoken about a potential appearance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, noting that while the idea excites him, his participation would depend on his physical readiness and ability to contribute meaningfully to the Argentina national team.
