TROOPS ARREST SUSPECTED GUN-RUNNER, RECOVER AK-47 RIFLE AND AMMUNITION IN TARABA

Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke, have arrested a suspected gun-runner and recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition during a raid in Shagada Village, Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The operation, conducted under the ongoing Operation Lafiya Nakowa, took place on November 12, 2025, following credible intelligence on illegal arms movement in the area.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Acting Assistant Director of Public Relations, 6 Brigade, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, the suspect, identified as Mr. Abdulmudallabi Audu, aged 25, was apprehended in possession of dangerous weapons.

“Acting on credible intelligence, on 12 November 2025, troops conducted a raid operation at Shagada Village under Namnai Ward in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State, which led to the arrest of a suspected gun-runner identified as Mr. Abdulmudallabi Audu, aged 25, who was found in possession of arms and ammunition,” the statement read.

Items recovered from the suspect include one AK-47 rifle, two AK-47 magazines, and 53 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

The statement added that the suspect and recovered exhibits are currently in custody at the 6 Brigade Headquarters for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The Commander, 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, commended the troops for their professionalism and swift response to intelligence reports. He reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to ongoing counter-crime operations aimed at flushing out criminal elements and illegal arms from Taraba State.

Uwa also urged residents to continue providing credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and sustain peace in the region.

Meanwhile, Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Tuesday assured Nigerians of improved security nationwide in the coming weeks after briefing President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
