KANO POLICE INTENSIFY PATROLS AHEAD OF FESTIVE SEASON, WARNS AGAINST CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES

The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Adamu Bakori, has ordered all Heads of Departments, Squadron Commanders, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders to scale up patrols and security surveillance across the state as the festive season approaches.
The directive, according to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, and made available to The Punch on Thursday, aligns with the nationwide order of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, for all police formations to maintain 24-hour visibility patrols during the last quarter of the year.
“The Kano State Police Command wishes to inform the public of the need for heightened vigilance and safety precautions as the Harmattan season sets in and the festive period approaches,” the statement read.
According to Haruna, the season is typically marked by increased vehicular movement, bustling commercial and social activities, and a possible rise in incidents such as road traffic accidents, fire outbreaks, farmers-herders clashes, and cases of sexual violence.
He explained that officers have been mandated to strengthen community engagement through dialogue with traditional rulers, religious leaders, market associations, transport unions, and youth groups. The Command has also been directed to enhance intelligence-gathering mechanisms to improve proactive response to threats.
“These proactive measures are aimed at fostering collaboration between the police and the public to prevent crimes, ensure peaceful coexistence, and respond swiftly to emergencies during this period,” Haruna stated.
The Command further urged residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and to promptly report any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station.
Commissioner Bakori assured the public of the Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace and security throughout the festive season and beyond.
Meanwhile, an earlier report stated that the Command recovered a Toyota Hilux vehicle stolen from the office of the Deputy Governor of Kano State and arrested a suspect linked to the theft.
The vehicle was traced and recovered in the early hours of Wednesday following a swift and coordinated operation by security operatives. The suspect, identified as a permanent and pensionable driver attached to the Deputy Governor’s office, is currently assisting investigators with the ongoing probe.
