The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reported the arrest of five suspected vandals targeting its Otukpo–Yandev 132kV transmission line in Benue State, marking a significant success in ongoing efforts to protect the nation’s power infrastructure.

The suspects, from Upu Community in Otukpo Local Government Area, were apprehended by local vigilantes on November 3, 2025, while vandalising towers N16 and N17 in ASA 3 Community. Investigations revealed that the damage extended to eight other towers along the line.

Recovered from the suspects were dismembered parts of the transmission towers and other materials, which were handed over to the Benue State Police Command for further investigation and prosecution.

TCN confirmed that the damaged section of the line has been isolated, with bulk power restored to the Yandev, Wukari, Takum, and Kashimbila Transmission Substations via the Apir Substation. Meanwhile, the Otukpo Substation is being back-fed from the New Heaven Substation.

The company commended the Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area, community leaders, youths, and members of the local vigilante group for their active role in coordinating the arrests. TCN emphasized its commitment to sustaining collaboration with communities to safeguard critical transmission infrastructure in the area.

Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, issued the statement highlighting the importance of community involvement in protecting Nigeria’s power assets.
